Baccarat Online

Baccarat or baccara is a comparing card game played between two or three hands, the "player" and the "banker." The winning hand is that giving the highest remainder when its face value is divided by ten. Each baccarat round of play is called 'coup,' and it has three possible outcomes:

1. The "player" has the higher score

2. The "banker" has the higher score or

3. A "tie"

There are many stories behind the origin of the baccarat card game. According to some sources, it dates back to the 19th century. During the Napoleonic era and before the legalization of casino gambling in 1907, people in France commonly played Baccarat in private gaming rooms.

There are three popular variants of the gambling game.

1. Baccarat Punto Banco or "North American Baccarat"

2. Chemin de Fer or "Chemmy"

3. Baccarat Banque or à deux tableaux

The earliest form of Baccarat is a three-person game; Baccarat Banque was mentioned in Album des Jeux by Charles Van-Tenac. Later, a two-person, zero-sum game Chemin de Fer emerged from Baccarat Banque. Then, Baccarat Punto Banco, in which the better bets on whether the Player or the Banker's hand wins, was a significant change in the development of modern Baccarat.

However, some other sources claim that, at the end of the 15th century, the Italian soldiers returning from the Franco-Italian War during the reign of Charles VIII introduced the game into France.

In Baccarat Punto Banco, each Player's moves are forced by the cards the Player is dealt. In Chemin de Fer and Baccarat Banque, by contrast, both players can make choices. The winning odds are in favor of the bank, with a house edge or casino profit no lower than around 1 percent.

Valuation of hands

The cards have a point value in Baccarat.

• Jokers are not used in the game

• the 2 through 9 cards in each suit are worth face value in points

• the 10, jack, queen, and king worth zero or have no point, and

• aces are worth 1 point

Hands are valued according to units' digit of the sum of their constituent cards. For instance, a hand consisting of 2 and 3 is worth 5, but a hand consisting of 6 and 7 is worth 3 because the 3 being the units digit in the combined points total of 13. The highest possible hand value in Baccarat is 'nine.'

How to play Baccarat?

Baccarat is an exciting game, full of suspense and intrigues the card enthusiasts! It is a simple game that is easy to learn and play. As mentioned, a game of Baccarat has three possible outcomes: either Player wins, or Banker wins, or a tie. Note that "Banker" does not refer to the house. Participants in the game have the option to bet on either the Player or Banker's hand.

Here are steps on how you can play the game:

1. A player can bet on either of two hands – A player may bet on either Banker's hand or Player's hand before the cards are dealt.

2. Know how cards are dealt – A player or casino operator slides one card out and places it face-up in the Player's box on the table. The next card is placed in the Banker's box on the table. The house then deals another Player card, then the second Banker card. The dealer's first round consists of two cards for both the Player and Banker.

3. Announce the total points of both sets of cards – If a total is more than 10, the second digit is the value of the hand, i.e., a 9 and a 6, is 15, make up a five-point hand. To win, your bet must be on the hand that totals closer to nine.

4. Understand the "natural" win – If the total point is 8 or 9 for either the Player or the Banker in the first two cards dealt, it is called a natural win, and the game is over. Bets that have already been placed are cashed out.

5. Determine if the Player gets a third card by looking at the point totals – The Player's hand is completed first. A Player will get no additional cards if the total is 8 or 9. On any other total, 0-5, the Player draws a third card, unless the Banker has 8 or 9, in which case the bank hand wins with no further draw.

6. Know the rules governing the third card for the Banker – If the Player stands pat (or draws no new cards), the Banker draws with a hand total of 0-5 and stays pat with a hand total of 6 or 7. All other hands are dependent on the third card the Player draws:

o If the Player's third card is 9, 10, face-card or Ace, the Banker draws when he has a 0-3 and stays with a 4-7.

o If the Player's third card is 8, the Banker draws when he has a 0-2 and stays with a 3-7.

o If the Player's third card is 6 or 7, the Banker draws when he has a 0-6 and stays with a 7.

o If the Player's third card is 4 or 5, the Banker draws when he has a 0-5 and stays with a 6-7.

o If the Player's third card is 2 or 3, the Banker draws when he has a 0-4 and stays with a 5-7.

7. Calculate the winning hand once all cards are dealt – The hand which totals closer to 9 wins! Neither hand wins or loses in the event of a tie. Sometimes a commission is paid out of winnings when betting on the Banker's hand.

Baccarat payouts

Player Hand Bets

You win if the Player's hand is closer to 9 than the Banker's hand. And it pays you double or evens (1:1). That is, a winning wager of $20 on the Player hand wins $20, bringing a total payout of $40.

Banker Bets

If you bet on a Bank hand and win, you will be paid evens minus 5% house commission. That is, if you bet $20 on the Banker and it wins, you will get $19 in winnings. Here, $1 will go to the house as a commission.

Tie Bets

When you make a tie bet, you are essentially wagering that the Bank hand and the Player hand will have an equal count. A winning tie bet pays out at 8:1. So, if you bet $20 on a tie and it wins, you will get $160 in winnings and retain the original bet of $20.

Note that all bets placed on the Banker and Player hand will get pushed if the result is a tie. That is, neither hand loses or wins. You can decide to leave the bet as is, remove it, switch it, or reduce/add the chips. And don't forget, relevant state and federal taxes may apply.
